Meet the Designer: Brenda Liz

Brenda Liz and partner, Jaime Torres’s line MARC ELLA NEW YORK will be featured during fashion week. Effortless fashion is their driving inspiration- “you can go from a 9 to 5 job to a 5 to 9 event and still look fabulous.” So how do they do it?

Firstly, how did you and Jamie get started? What’s the history of your brand?
BL: Jaime Torres & I have known each other for about 17 years. Having similar design aesthetics and style made it easy for us to start this partnership in 2009. New York is filled with women demanding attention and aspiring to inspire. This collection does just that. One of our pieces has the power to create a “buzz” and enables women to express their own sense of style. MARC ELLA NEW YORK uses Ambiguity & Versatility to create Timeless pieces for MENY closets.

What can we expect to see at the show?
BL: You guys will definitely see a blend of masculine/feminine silhouettes. We have taken some pieces usually found in menswear and gave it a little twist. There’s structure but we also have the romantic flair of a womenswear. There’s a little bit of everything in this collection making these pieces a staple as well as a statement.

When it comes to your designs, what do you focus on? Clothes/accessories/etc?
BL: Our main focus is versatility in the clothing. We want to make it effortless to wear the pieces for more than just a season. Every piece in the collection is easily accessorized and combines well with the pieces one already has in their closets.

How are your pieces special?
BL: You can go from a 9 to 5 job to a 5 to 9 event and still look fabulous. In an industry where there is always something going on, you always have to look your best. As I stated previously, our main focus is versatility and not a lot of designers keep that in mind.

As a designer, does your personal style often influence your creativity?
Definitely. I feel like this collection is actually the epitome of Jaime & I. There isn’t a piece in the collection that doesn’t reflect one of us. It’s a multi-faceted collection infused with androgynous power.

Do you have a website buyers can purchase on? Any other social media? (instagram/twitter/facebook/etc)
Yes. You can find our pieces on & can follow us on Twitter @MarcElla_0x & on Instagram @wermeny. You can also like us on Facebook at Marc Ella New York.

-XO, L.
